The slap heard around the world

The slap heard around the world
Unless you are living in a cave you now know what happened on Sunday night at Oscar’s when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock.
Chris Rock made a joke about Jada’s hair and even though Will first laughed, when he saw her face, he decided he was not having it. See this is a medical problem that Jada has been dealing with and I guess Will lost it, ran up there and bitch slapped Chris. He then went on to tell him in no uncertain terms to keep his wife’s name out of his fucking mouth.
Now, again if you do not live in a cave you have seen people taking up for both sides on social media. And the memes that will be coming for a long time.
Some people are saying it was staged, an act that all of them put on for ratings.
Some people are saying that it was a joke that was told by a comedian and being in the spotlight of that business you need to have hard skin about jokes. That it wasn’t right for Will to slap him but maybe to confront him later on backstage.
They go on to say there was no cause for violence especially on a live television special and that Will should have controlled himself.
The rest say good for him. He should have stuck up for his wife and this will teach others to think before they insult someone especially when that someone is going through a serious medical condition.
Look, I’ve loved Will Smith from the jump. I love the way he loves and respects his family. They have gone through a lot and they are brave enough to put it all out there. Theirs may not be a conventional marriage but who are we to say how others live their lives. It obviously works for them, look how long they’ve been married. But they are doing what they want, how they want and being transparent about it all. Good for them!
But honestly we can’t say what we would have done or not because we are not Will. They say him and Chris had some bad blood before this, again because of Jada and some jokes he previously made about her. He just finished a tough movie for which he won the Oscar for. They, as a couple, have dealt with a lot in the last few years. Who knows when it is the last straw for someone.
Let’s be honest, how many times have you lost it? Someone or something rubbed you the wrong way and you went off? Don’t say never because we are all human and it happens to us all.
And look I get it, Chris Rock is a comedian but hell he made a documentary about black women’s hair for God sake. He of all people should know what black women do for their hair and how they feel about it so why would you crack a sorry joke like that? But I also have to give him credit because this could have gone left fast. He was a true professional and like the old Hollywood saying, the show must go on which he completely did with grace and style.
So today my friends, remember we are all human, we all make mistakes. I can see both sides, I try to understand both men and where they were coming from because I get it,  knowing how many times I’ve done something or said something wrong.
I still respect both men and still will continue following them and their careers. I am glad Will publicly apologized to Chris yesterday and I truly hope that Chris continues to be a bigger man and accepts it. Unfortunately the trolls and haters will probably keep this going way past these two men.
But we all must remember, we don’t know what’s going on inside of someone’s head and heart, we must just learn to be compassionate as it could have been anyone of us who was at their last straw.
