    Putting someone’s happiness over your own.

     

    Putting someone’s happiness over your own is when you love someone so much that you just want to see them happy. Even if that means it is not with you.

    Now, many people can’t imagine this concept because it’s a hard one to do. Parents get this. They know what it is to put their children first. They know what it’s like to put their child’s needs over their own. But in a romantic way, well, that’s a different story. That is way harder.

     

    Recently, my ex-boyfriend called me and told me he thought he may have found someone else. He said he wanted to tell me because he wanted me to hear it from him first, and he wanted to make sure I was okay with it. Now we have been broken up for almost 2 years but we are still great friends. We both knew we would never get back together as he wanted children, and I do not. But we still love one another and want each other to be happy.

     

    I was happy for him, I’ve always wanted him to find his forever person. Someone he could have a family with. We always talked about this even while we were together, as we knew that this relationship was not going to last forever.

    We had always discussed our wishes for each of us in finding our forever person and how happy we would be when that day came.

     

    I know this is not normal in relationship talk, but when you walk into a relationship with your eyes open and a pure heart, this can happen.

    Some people are put into your life for a reason, for a lesson, and we both knew that that is what this relationship was. We enjoyed our time together, we learned what we needed to learn, and we parted as great friends with love and respect for each other.

     

    I know many people can’t understand this or get over the fact that you can remain friends with your ex’s but that comes from a place of fear or jealousy. Just because you can’t make it as a couple doesn’t mean you didn’t like that person as a person or love them because of who they are.

     

    So today, my friends, I am here to say it’s only when you love someone so much that you would be happy for their happiness, even if it doesn’t include you. This is pure love, a love that goes beyond what most people can comprehend. This is the definition of putting someone’s happiness over your own, and we should all try it.
