April is stress awareness month
Now if you follow me you know that I hate all these made up holidays. I don’t think we need a special day to remind us to have dinner with our family.
Saying that, I also think it’s important to focus on things we may not talk about all during the year. Near and dear to my heart is Domestic Violence month because we need to speak more about this topic.
April has become stress awareness month and I think this is a good thing to speak about, as most of us are stressed in this world. Hell, even little kids are stressed nowadays. There are so many expectations on them. There are sports and clubs and helicopter parents that there is no time for just being a kid anymore. So many single moms are holding it down alone, working long hours, doing double duty as mom and dad. We work harder for less money. We now are stressed about the world and what’s going on. Covid, not working, losing loved ones, and war. Hell, I’m stressed just saying it all.
Stress doesn’t just affect you mentally but physically as well. I remember when I was separated but living in the same house with my now ex, do I even have to tell how stressful that is? It was unbelievably stressful. My hair fell out, I couldn’t sleep, I lost a lot of weight, I had headaches, and I was sick all the time. I remember my Bishop saying to me, “Does all that stress change the outcome of the situation?”
I answered “No, not one damn bit”
“So why do it then?” He asked.
It caught me off guard because he was right. I was making myself sick because of what if’s, I was thinking about all the bad things that “could” happen. My own fear was making me sick.
Let me ask you, what if great things happen? Did you ever think of that, I didn’t because I was focused on all the bad. Guess what? Great things did happen for me, more than I could have ever dreamt for.
But I remember when there was a point that fear and stress took over and that was all I could see. I couldn’t see anything else. Now I chose to not stress over anything, anymore. Bills due, not stressing, covid came and had no work, not stressing, kids are crazy, not stressing. I refuse to stress over any of it. Nope, none of it. I pray and let go and let me tell you I’ve never felt better.
So today my friends remember, you get to choose, the choice is yours. You can stop stressing yourself about things you have no control over. Whatever is going to be, will be, that’s the bottom line.
Let it go because whether you’re stressed or not, whether you worry or you’re calm, the outcome will be the same. So why do that to yourself? Why stress yourself more than you have to. Learn to live your best life, stress less and live longer.
