Father’s day special treat

Fathers day special treat

It’s been 42 years since I have lost my dad and there are still moments when I think of him and it takes my breath away because it still hurts so bad.
I remember while I was writing my book, I had the opportunity to be able to write about so many wonderful memories that I had with my dad.

I was blessed with a wonderful dad who not only paid child support but paid above what he was told to. He paid for vacations, summer camp, doctor and dentist, braces and sports, school clothes, summer clothes and whatever else I needed.

He drove 3 hours every Sunday to come and see me. He came in the rain, snow, sleet or hail, none of that never stopped him.
One Christmas there was a blizzard and it took my dad 5 hours but he made it and I refused to open my gifts until he got there because I knew he would come.

He never missed a school play or a conference, he was always there for me.
He took me for Easter breaks and summer vacation. He introduced me to Broadway plays, to the city he loved and to the world outside my little town.
He never spoke a bad word about my mother, never raised his voice or cursed at her, he was always a true gentleman.

He cared about his appearance, and he dressed at all times. He wore silk shirts, suits, and fancy shoes. His car was always shiny and looked new. He was kind and funny and made the best pancakes on Sunday morning when he came to see me and was the best father I could have ever wished for!

I judge all men by my father’s life, is he truly a good man? Can he live up to what a great man is, as I know what a great man is, because I was raised by not just one but three.

God had also blessed me with a wonderful step father as well, he was kind and sweet and he loved me like I was his own. He taught me how to ride a bike, how to fix anything, and helped me with my homework and school projects.

I also had Sam, but I called him my big daddy. He was a family friend who I knew since I was a little girl and loved him like a father as well. He taught me to shoot pool, he taught me life lessons and to believe that anything was possible.

These men of God, showed me what a real man looks like. What a real man acts like and one day, as I still have hope that I will find a real man just like them.

So today my friends and to all the other real men I know in my life, thank you for being a role model to others and for me. I know there are great men in this world because of you and I am blessed to have you all in my life.
And to these wonderful men I was blessed to call fathers, I will miss you each and every day, I love you and you will always be in my heart.
Happy Father’s day to all the great men out there!
