Sins of our mother 

So I watched this documentary on Netflix called Sins of our mother.

It was about the 2020 case surrounding Lori Vallow Daybell — nicknamed the “doomsday mom” — who is presently awaiting trial for the deaths of her two children.

In these three episodes, they show you Lori’s grim descent into religious extremism and what this did to her and her family.

In the beginning you see her searching for a family life and after three failed marriages she was quick to look for someone else who would give that to her. She met and married her third husband pretty soon after her last divorce but he seemed to love her and accept her son as his. 

They went on to have 2 more children together and their life seemed perfect even down to living in Hawaii.

But it was there that her devotion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints became more and more. 

There she met more devotioners like herself including her soon to be fifth husband Chad Guy Daybell — a former gravedigger turned apocalyptic novelist and self-declared prophet — 

We are not clear on if Lori believed her 17-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son were so-called “dark” individuals and followers of Satan or that Chad made her believe it. 

What we do find out is that she divorced her fourth husband and then he was “accidentally killed” by her brother. Weeks later Chad’s wife mysteriously dies and a few weeks after that Chad and Lori are married. Even the best ⁰novelist couldn’t make this story up.

But no one has seen her  children. Her older son who was already married, kept trying to call his siblings to no avail and when he spoke to his mother she told him different stories about where the children were.

There ended up being a manhunt for Lori and Chad to find them and to find out where her children were.

What we learned after that was shocking, both of the children were found dead and shallow graves on Chad’s property.

 Sometimes when I watch these types of programs I wonder how a mother does this to her child or children? How do you not feel that instinct to protect them with your life? What makes you get to a point and snap to do such a horrendous thing?

In her case it was religion that goes over to the extreme, making her believe in all that they were saying about being the chosen ones when the world comes to an end and how they had to get rid of the demons.

So today my friends remember you never know what can happen. This seemingly once happy family came to a tragic end. 

We don’t know what can make people snap to commit awful crimes like this. But I know I will be watching this trail when it happens to see this all unfold. And I will be praying for her family that now has to deal with all of this, because of her actions, the sins of the mother.
