Gone too soon

Gone too soon

If you know me or follow me you know that I have had many losses in my life.

I have lost many loved ones, too many for one person to deal with, but this is the hand that I was dealt with so it is what it is.

You would think after so many losses it would get easier but losing someone you love never does. And of course this time wasn’t easy at all. My “church husband” passed away suddenly this week. He wasn’t old and had a full life ahead of him or so we thought.

When I was in my horrible abusive marriage I happened to find this church. One of the ministers would always sit me next to this man who also came to the church by himself. We would sit next to each and cry all during the sermon. I could tell he was lost and broken, like me and soon we became friends.

We would talk, go out to lunch after church, he would save me seats or I would save him a seat. We started telling each other about our journey to God. We spoke of how this church had saved our lives and how God must have known we needed each other through this difficult time. He had lost his wife to cancer and thought that this pain was his punishment for all the bad he had done in his life. I thought the same things about why I was here and from that bond our friendship grew from there.

He was a true man of God, he believed in his faith and it gave me the strength to do the same. I always knew that no matter what, I could count on him to pray with me, to give it to me straight whether I wanted to hear it or not, which was often with my hard headed self.

He needed God and church so badly that during the pandemic when church was only online he would drive to the church, touch the doors and then sit in his car, in the parking lot listening to service. He was so afraid of falling back into that life he led before that he had to be there.

This is how much this church had changed our lives and after going there for 10 years, people just assumed we were married. They would see us every Wednesday night and Sunday mornings at church together. They would ask is that your husband? I would answer no,  that’s my church husband. This is where this came from, and this is who God placed in my life, a lifeline for both of us.

So today my friends remember life is short, way too short. We never know when we or a loved one will be called home. It was Adrian’s birthday on Monday the last time we spoke and on Wednesday he was gone, just like that. So do what you always wanted to do…now. Travel, start that business, forgive someone that wronged you because once they are gone it is too late. Don’t have any I would haves, I should have regrets. Fix it now, live your life large because you never know when it will be gone too soon.

You will be so missed my dear church husband…Adrian Graham.
