Our forefathers taught us love

In keeping with this week’s theme of love I want to talk about remembering these words our forefathers wrote many years ago.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that along these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness”

This is the right given to EVERY man. Read that again….every man, woman, and child in our country. That we are created equal, and no one is better than another, so what happened to this? What happened to the words they wrote in the constitution?

On our Statue of Liberty, it clearly says

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

This is what our country was built on, love and compassion for others. To open our arms and take in people who want a better life, who are persecuted, and who do not have the freedoms we are so blessed to have.

Martin Luther King once said, and I quote:
“We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. And when we do that, we will make this old world a new world, for love is the only way.”
You just keep loving people and keep loving them, even though they’re mistreating you”

Mother Teresa spoke of love all the time saying;

“People who love each other fully and truly are the happiest in the world. They may have little, or they may have nothing, but they are happy people. Everything depends on how we love one another.”

The Dalai Lama spoke of love like this:

“We should practice by showing one another love and helping one another. It is a mistake to pursue happiness and to seek to avoid suffering by deceiving and humiliating other people. We must try to achieve happiness and eliminate suffering by being good-hearted and well-behaved”

The Bible writes about love 315 times, and in 237 verses, the one I love is the one everyone seems to quote on Valentine’s day…

“Love endures with patience is kind love is never envious or boastful or in vain. It is not conceited, it is not rude. it does not rejoice in injustice and unrighteousness but rejoices when right and truth prevail. Love bears all things, looking for the best in each other, and endures everything”

We need to learn from these wise people who have come before us that love conquers all. That this is the only way we will heal this broken world we live in.

We must remember that we all bleed red, we all die and go into the same size box and we all turn into ash eventually. So if we know this, why do we still hate it? Why do we want to separate others? Why can’t we just all get along as Rodney King once spoke?

So today my friends, on this week of Valentine’s day, let’s try to Our forefathers taught love these words our forefathers spoke, and let’s try to love one another.
I will leave you with this to remember….
