The love of a sister

So this week in honor of Valentine’s day and my week-long series of love.
I can think of none better to speak of than, sisterly love.
If you know me or follow me, you know that I’m an only child. I remember every year my mother asking me what do I want for my birthday or Christmas and I would say a sister. Unfortunately, my mother couldn’t have any other children.

I realized when I had my two girls that it was an only child fantasy. These two fought more than anybody I’ve ever seen. Everyone said eventually they would become friends but I didn’t think that was ever going to happen.

Now that they are young adults they are best friends and I couldn’t be happier as this was what I dreamed of having a sister would be.
They have traveled together around the world, they hang out every weekend, they exercise together and they speak every day. The love they have for each other is touching.

I prayed for this for years but was worried because they had such a different upbringing. One was the apple of her father’s eye and could do nothing wrong. She never got punished or yelled at. She was the perfect child in her father’s eyes.

The other one, maybe because she was so much like me, spoke her mind and stood up for not only herself but for me as well. She was punished all the time and she got an ass-whooping every day from her father.
You would think that she would resent her sister, but being the kind person that she is, she knew that it was not her sister’s fault the way her father had treated them differently.

So today my friends I’m here to tell you that if you have a sibling, especially a sister you should hold on to that bond. They know you better than you know yourself, they will be there for you through thick and thin. And if you have a relationship like my girls, they will be your best friend and you will be lucky enough to know the love of a sister.
