Mass shootings are out of control

Mass shootings are out of control

I’ve been speaking this week about the government banning drag queens and critical race theory, yet the politicians aren’t talking about the real issues we are facing every day.

Do you realize that there were 52 mass shootings in January, 41 in February, and 11 so far in March — a total of 104 so far.
At least 7,537 people have also died as a result of different forms of gun violence in the country so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

They describe a mass shooting as four or more people shot or killed, not including the shooter.
With the shooting in Half Moon Bay, about 30 miles south of San Francisco, that came on the heels of another mass shooting in the southern California city of Monterey Park that killed 11 people.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, 2023 is on pace to have the most mass shootings at this point of any year on record. It found 3 mass shootings in South Florida, including 9 shot in Miami Gardens on New Year’s Day, 10 shot at the Licking Restaurant a few days later and 1 killed and 3 injured in Homestead on the 15th.

And hello!! We are not even out of the first three months of the year yet! And yet again, we heard the empty, “We are sorry for your loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with you,” but nothing changes.

The gun companies still hold all the power. The lobbyists who are in their pockets have no conscience because they are getting paid off. All they have for us is “Our thoughts and prayers are with you,” but our pockets are above all.

Now, before you come at me, I am all about the right to bear arms. I owned guns, and yes, I am okay with longer wait times, more stricter background checks, and more laws, if that means it will keep more people from being killed. Our thoughts and prayers are obviously not helping. What we need is change.

So today, my friends, we need to see that this is a national epidemic. This is the important stuff we need to be talking about, not drag queens or banning books. We need change. We need to vote these idiots out of office. Because if we don’t, how many more people will die? How many more children must we lose? How many more families must be torn apart before a change is made?
We need to take a stand to be the change we want to see. Because it’s obvious that thoughts and prayers aren’t working.
