Passing along your knowledge

Passing along your knowledge

Recently, an old high school friend reached out to me because she was starting a business like mine, back home. Now a lot of people would say why would you give somebody your business ideas? After all, they are competing with you, but I don’t feel that way. It’s not a competition. We all have our strengths and skills, and we all have different personalities. We all bring something different to the table. If I could help another person, especially another woman, then I am the first one to help.

That is the problem today. Everybody thinks it’s a competition, but when you lift one woman up, we lift all women up. We all become better because of that. This is why I don’t watch any of those housewives of who gives a shit shows. It’s because they’re always tearing each other down. They are always trying to make other women look bad. They think that it makes themselves look better, but it doesn’t. It just makes them look petty and selfish. The only time you should be looking down on somebody is when you’re giving them a hand up.

There is enough in this world to go around for everybody, so why not help each other out? Not only did I reach out to her, I called her, and we talked for over an hour. I let her pick my brain about everything she wanted to know about the business. I even gave her a copy of my contract. My question is, why not help somebody get there quicker when you have the knowledge? Why hold on to it and be greedy?

So today my friends, remember it is not a competition. We learn from the others that came before us. They teach us the pitfalls, the shortcuts, and the knowledge that they’ve learned along the way, but only if they care about others and only if they are willing to pass on their knowledge.
