03 Jan A New Year…new beginnings
A new year, new beginnings
Yes, every New Year, we have a chance to change things, to make things better, to let go of some things that no longer do us any good or serve us.
It’s like a reset button on your life, and lord knows we need a reset button after this last year.
We all make these resolutions, to eat better, to exercise more, to be kinder, and the list goes on and on. Now, if you follow me, you know my answer to this, but I’ll say it again: do we really need a day so that we might change these things? Isn’t everyday a new day? Why not start tomorrow? Today? This minute? This very second?
Why don’t we try to be our very best every day? If it’s possible to start over on New Year’s, why isn’t it possible to change anytime in our lives?
Why do so many people judge others on the sins of their past? Can any of us say we are the same people we were thirty years ago, twenty years ago, hell, even five years ago?
I would hope that people wouldn’t judge me on the stupid things I did thirty years ago, or even 5 years ago, if you don’t believe me go back and read some of my blogs, Lord help me. I know that I have grown and changed, and I have learned a lot of lessons along the way. No, I am not the same person, and neither are you. Yes, you may have screwed up, made bad choices, and not done the right things, but you can change. That’s the beauty of being human beings; we have the power of change.
Isn’t that what life is all about? Learning lessons and growing? If last New Year’s you said you were going to lose thirty pounds, but a year goes by and not only haven’t you lost thirty pounds, you put on ten extra. Would you want people telling you twenty years later, “Well, you never did that, you can’t change.” No, no one would. There are plenty of things all of us have done that we are ashamed of or wished we could have changed, but it’s the past that’s why it is called the past, it’s behind you.
Tomorrow is a brand new day, just like New years is a brand new year. So don’t wait to change and don’t assume that others haven’t changed or can’t change. Time waits for no one, and if the past few years taught us anything it’s that life is too short, that we don’t know if we will even be here next year so use your time wisely and like I say at the end of every blog…
