In the new Netflix documentary, Seeing Allred it follows famous attorney Gloria Allred and her fight for women’s rights. If you follow me you know I’m all about women’s rights and Gloria Allred is definitely about all about women’s rights. She is feared by many and also hated by many more but she will not stop.

She is famously known for filing suit against Bill Cosby for the victims in this case but she has had a long history in helping women without a voice and what a voice she is.

She said it’s always personal to her if a woman has been a victim of injustice and being a survivor, I know she speaks from the heart.

She was a single mom who worked and went to college at night. She knew how hard it was being a woman in a man’s world and she wanted to be a champion for these women. She knows because she’s been there. In her twenties she met a doctor on vacation and he raped her. She ended up pregnant and had to have a back alley abortion. She never went to the police because she thought who would believe her? So she set off to be that person. She believes these women who come to her when they too believe that no one will believe them. 

She started in the 60’s and even back then she showed no fear standing up to these men. This was back in the day when most attorneys were men and the women who were, weren’t taken seriously. She stood up about abortion, women wages, sexual orientations, gay marriages and even civil rights.

She fought for child support for mothers, starting the law as we know it now. She fought against the catholic church for sexual assault.

She was the first woman they let into the Friars Club.

She was one of the first women to talk about sexual hassasments, she fought for gay rights and adoption before it was even a law or it was in style.

She’s a true hard core feminist, she believes that women’s voices are power and they will never be silent again. 

The more I watched this documentary the more respect I have for this woman. We all need to be more like her, we need to speak out, we need to be a voice for all others not just for our own causes but for everyone’s causes. 

I write this blog and I am brutally honest about what happened to me because I want to be a voice to help others. We can’t say there is nothing we can do about it. It took one woman to stand up and say I will no longer sit in the back of the bus, to start a movement and make a change. For the many women who fought before us to give us the rights we now have and for the next generation to keep the fight going until we all have equal rights, we all must speak out. There’s nothing more important than feeling that you can make a difference in the world and make it a little better.

One voice at a time, we all can be the change we want to see.
