01 Dec The dishes can wait
The dishes can wait
So last weekend I had friends come in from out of town. After an eventful 3 days I thought okay, I am going to clean the house and relax on the couch all day on Sunday. But sometimes life has other ideas like when my girlfriend’s family reached out to her while she was down here visiting. She hasn’t spoken to them in years so this was definitely a Christmas miracle.
My girlfriend is someone I have known for the last 30 plus years. I met her because her cousin was with my ex brother in law for over 20 years. Although they are not together anymore, we still stayed friends.
I hadn’t seen her family in over 10 years since my divorce and I have missed them as they were family to me. So even though there was a sink full of dishes and my planned day off relaxing, I left everything right there in the sink and went.
When I was on my way home to get back to my planned day, my other friend who was in town called and said, meet us for lunch. Well, the dishes will still have to wait and off I went.
By the time I was on my way home the only thing I accomplished was getting gas and washing my car.
And there were the dishes still waiting for me… but my daughter was home and hanging out with them was more important.
Look, I’ve lost too many people in my life, I truly know how short life can be. I never want to be on my dying days saying I should have…I wish I did this or that. No one ever says on their deathbed, I should have worked more. No, they say I wish I would have spent more time with the ones I love.
I refuse to let one day go by without living life to the fullest. I wasted 24 years being miserable, not enjoying my life the way I wanted to, I will not waste whatever time I have left.
So today my friends remember, life is too short, the dishes will be there long after you are dead. Who cares! Is that what people will remember you by? That your house was clean or you were so caught up that you didn’t live life. I can tell you that will not be me and if anyone that I love stops by or says hey, let go here or do this, the dishes, the laundry and the dirty house can go to hell because I will be out of there! Enjoying my life to the fullest!
